’INTENTION :
A journey to Japan in search of the space in between:
Ma (間) is a quest for the right distance — a space of encounter without intrusion.
In Japan, she sought modest intimacy and the discreet beauty of everyday life.
Analog photography allowed her to inhabit silence, to wait.
This project is an invitation to slow down, to look differently —
to come closer, without ever grasping.

Ma (間) is a Japanese word that refers to space, interval, the silence between two things. Neither empty nor full, Maembodies a suspended moment — a transitional space where time and space meet and transform. The kanji itself combines the symbol of a gate (門) with that of the sun (日), evoking an opening, a soft, suspended light illuminating the space in between. Ma is everywhere: in everyday gestures, in the pauses between words, in the silences between sounds. It is the breath of the world.
This book tells the story of a journey to Japan — a suspended space-time where emptiness reveals itself as necessary. A delicate in-between, a brief moment in a life where time stood still through the lens of photography. For a short while, making room entirely for contemplation and encounter. Through this liminal passage, photography becomes an act of breathing, a silent dialogue between nature and the body. Alone, wandering through Japanese streets and gardens, between sea and mountain… bearing witness to one’s own existence.
Within Ma (間), there is no haste. The gaze settles with full attention, listening to what the speed of everyday life often prevents us from hearing. Here, time is taken to live. A passage to the other side of the globe to reconnect with the world through slowness and restraint.
